Beta Development Continues…

First and foremost, I want to thank each and every one of you who contributed to our beta launch last month. We are so grateful to have such a great group of supporters and beta testers who helped us push BlockAvenue into the public domain. Like any MVP release, our site came packaged with plenty of trapped doors and bugs (free of charge of course!), but it something we’ve been working to correct daily. Also, I want to thank you all for helping out our dev team by submitting tickets, reporting these bugs and making us laugh – some of these tickets were just classic – even those people who beat us up for poor implementation.

Data:  Yes, we heard we missed the boat with some of the amenity and restaurant data, a “whoops” would be a small understatement as to how bad we screwed that one up. Well, it’s finally fixed now and we have a 95% accuracy on all of our restaurant & amenity data – we dare you to report a ticket on this now! (PS: I love Fanelli’s so much!!!)

Grades & Transparency:  “What does A, B, C, D, F mean?” We got this one a lot too, and although we have not perfected our grading algorithm, we have at least brought a lot of transparency as to how we are calculating these grades. More to come on this, but, if you disagree on what we have for a grade on your block, please, do tell and write a review. BlockReviews are heavily weighted and will impact an area score greatly. Go ahead try this search for Soho NYC.

Search Hovers & Tray:  Try doing a search and hovering over those shiny new pins. We brought a lot more detail to both the pins & the associated search tray to the right of the map. This enables users to consume a lot more hyper-local content much easier and much faster.

Edit Profile:  Looking to be a BlockAve All-Star (like me) – well now you can. You can now edit your personal profile and beautify it.  Member profile pages now display all of your BlockReviews, comments, and site activity that highlight the areas you know best.  You can also add a bio and links to your favorite websites too!

Sharing & Misc. Bugs:  We had some social sharing bugs which have now been resolved as well. Now you can easily share any page or data point on our site with ease and with just one click.

To sum things up, although we are still in beta, this release was a major upgrade to our site. Things to come in the immediate future include: a full-text search, a BlockAve Pro account for real estate users, and our mighty awesome iPhone app – stay tuned for more exciting times to come! (PS: Do you like our iPhone icon? Vote for it here on our Facebook page!)
