Talking Blocks with Vivienne Gucwa

Vivienne Gucwa, a New York City native, often wandered through the city on foot to relieve stress and she took a camera with her to snap what she calls “visual urban poetry”. After a period of time, Vivienne said she began to catalog these adventures in a blog called NY Through the Lens – New York City Photography.

The photo blog offers value to anyone who loves beautiful photography, but the real aesthetic lies in how her photos capture the smaller, local moments of New York City. Moments like art in dive bars or sunlight dripping over buildings in Chinatown.

“New York City is a rapidly changing place and capturing visual moments and structures can be a fleeting experience,” Gucwa said. “But it is also an exhilarating experience to document the changing face of the city.”

Here is the low down on Vivienne’s favorite places and blocks in NYC:

Love The Block: Doyers Street.
Love The Neighborhood: Lower East Side.
Love Eating At: Buddha Bodai
Love Drinking At: Decibel
Love Listening To: Tom Waits
Love Sweating At: The Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge and the Williamsburg Bridge
Love The Website: The Lo-Down
Love NYC Because: It’s my home
